Welcome Balius Cellars

Balius, Xanthos, Aquilo and Fly By are exciting new brands from Trevor Sheehan and Chris Buddress.

What’s in a Name?

Achilles and his two immortal horses, Balius and Xanthos, were legendary and heroic figures on the battlefields of ancient Greece. The warrior and his fearless horses were often depicted with black paint on clay wine vessels, or amphorae, as a celebration of their heroic triumphs.

The Balius label is their nod to the fabled heroes represented by the black figure pottery of ancient Greece, and all of our Balius wines are reflections of the world-renowned appellations throughout California.

These wines are sourced from some of the best Napa & Sonoma vineyard land . They are finely crafted by Jason Moore into delightful elixires worthy of praise at attainable prices.  Crisp, clean whites with youthful freshness and deep, brooding reds to ponder.

Welcome Egelhoff Wines

Egelhoff Wines –

We are honored to be representing the wines of one of Napa’s highly sought-after winemaker consultants, Bob Egelhoff. As many in the industry know, Bob made Wine Spectator’s 1997 Wine-of-the-Year. The Cabernet Sauvignon Elevation 1147, for David Arthur Vineyards which garnered 99 pts.

Bob Egelhoff

Bob Egelhoff

Bob Egelhoff received his degree from UC Davis in 1981 and headed for the vineyards working three years at Beckstoffer Vineyards. He then joined Bill Harlan’s Merryvale Vineyards honing his winemaking skills under Bob Levy and consultant Michel Rolland. There, he had the opportunity to make wines for such clients as Amizetta, Harlan Estate, Hartwell Estate, Oakford Vineyards, Pahlmeyer, and Staglin Family Vineyard. Bob then took that experience and began is private consulting with clients such as Amizetta, Axios Wine, Bella Vista, Phelan Vineyard, Richard Partridge, and Robert Craig Winery, in addition to David Arthur.

The initial 1999 release under his own label was of 112 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon; production grew the next year to around 300 cases, then 500 and 700, with sales primarily to high-end restaurants and a mailing list. For the first few years, grapes were sourced from Sacrashe Vineyard in Rutherford, Calif.; today, Glendale Ranch in St. Helena’s Conn Valley is the mainstay of the Cab program. In addition to his Blue Label Cab, he offers a Riesling sourced from the Bayview Ranch, Carneros and a second Cabernet Sauvignon under the Walton Label. This fruit is from both the Glendale Ranch in the Conn Valley and Mt George Vineyard located on the north facing slope of Monticello Canyon in the Eastern hills of Napa.

The Two Worlds project is an amazing collaboration of Bob Egelhoff’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Michael Twelftree’s famed Two Hands Barossa Valley Shiraz. Michael flies over a bladder full of his shiraz and Bob blends it up and barrels it. Production is a modest 480 etched Magnums that have garnered the No. 2 spot in the Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2010.

Welcome Creative Wine Concepts Portfolio

Scott Harvey Wines –

We are absolutely delighted to add Scott and Jana Harvey to our growing portfolio of unique brands. Scott Harvey is a legendary winemaker hailing from California’s Sierra Mountains Region where in the late ’70s he blazed a trail and is credited with placing Amador County firmly on the California wine map. Crafting the best wines possible from the soils and climatic conditions of the region.

Scott & Jana Harvey

In 1996, Scott was recruited as Partner, Winemaker & President for newly purchased, Folie a Deux Winery in Napa Valley. Combining forces with Lead Partner, renowned Winemaker, Richard Peterson, Ph.D, a formidable winemaking team was launched. Scott pursued his commitment to award-winning Cabernets made from the Estate Vineyards in Napa Valley while continuing his passion for Amador County Zinfandel. Access to Scott’s original Grandpère vineyard in Amador County and close relationships with premier Amador County growers, resulted in award-winning wines all around for Folie a Deux. In addition, Scott’s creation, the “Menage a Trois” line of wines, was an instant commercial success. In 2004, Folie a Deux, now a respected brand, was sold to Sutter Home/Trinchero Winery. Scott was finally positioned and ready to start his own venture, and he had the ideal partner – his wife, Jana, a wine industry veteran.

Creative Concept Wines include the Scott Harvey Wines which are are made of the best varietals from the terroir of Amador County, California. These worldly wines include an Old Vine Zinfandel, a Syrah (Rhone), a Barbera (Italian) and a Port (Portuguese). Scott’s roots are in Amador County which has allowed him to develop considerable expertise with these varietals. Jana Wines which are are named to convey the romance and passion Scott feels for his wife, Jana, and also for the creation of the wines that they love to share. The wines are from the best of Napa Valley varietals. The Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant Bordeaux Blend. The Napa Valley Riesling and Ice Wine are innovative wines that spring from Scott’s winemaking training in Germany. California Blends InZinerator and One Last Kiss are blended with Zinfandel, Syrah and port varieties. The mixture of Scott’s European training with California winemaking exhibit new world extraction and richness with old world acidity and structure.

Lobo Releases 2009 Cab Sauv Napa

Lobo Wines –

Husband and wife team Krys and Randy Wulff have been growing premium grapes in Napa Valley for over a decade, selling to many well known wineries such as Lewis, Pine Ridge and Mumm. It took years for the Wulffs to hand select areas in their estate vineyards from which they would make their own signature wines under the LOBO label, which was custom designed by their son Matthew. LOBO, the Spanish word for “wolf ”, honors the heritage of the valley’s viticulture caretakers. The couple’s approach to winemaking is synonymous with their approach to viticulture — an uncompromising commitment to quality and sustainable stewardship of the land. Three artisan winemakers each handcraft one of three varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) to ensure the unique characteristics of each wine fully embodies the Wulffs’ dedication to the fruit and its greatest gift, flavor.
